Raiden Network Token (RDN)

The Raiden Network Token (RDN) is the native token of the Raiden Network, an off-chain scaling solution for the Ethereum blockchain. It enables fast, cheap, scalable token transfers, complementing Ethereum and compatible with any ERC20 token. The project aims to research state channel technology, define protocols, and develop reference implementations. Built as an infrastructure layer on top of Ethereum, the Raiden Network abstracts away the complexities of the underlying protocol, allowing developers to build decentralized applications with a simple API.

The Raiden Network solves blockchains’ scalability problem by leveraging a network of payment channels. Instead of relying on global consensus for every transfer, value can be securely transferred off-chain. This enables the Raiden Network to scale linearly with the number of participants, confirm transfers within a subsecond, ensure privacy for individual transfers, and work with any token that follows Ethereum’s standardized token API (ERC20). Additionally, transfer fees on the Raiden Network can be significantly lower than on the blockchain, making it suitable for micropayments and various use cases such as retail payments, P2P cash, instant token swaps, and more.

To get started with the Raiden Network, developers can explore the Raiden Light Client, a reference implementation of the Raiden Light Client SDK. However, as the release is still in beta, it is important to read the documentation and security notes before using the software.
