About Arbitrum

Arbitrum (ARB) is a suite of scaling solutions designed to enhance the speed and affordability of transactions on the Ethereum network. With the same level of security as Ethereum, Arbitrum offers faster transaction speeds and reduced costs. Powered by Nitro, a proprietary blockchain network-powered technology stack, Arbitrum One and Nova provide 7x more throughput than Ethereum without compromising security. Arbitrum One has various decentralized finance (DeFi) applications, wallets, and tools, while Nova hosts Web3 social and gaming applications, including Reddit’s community points and next-generation gaming experiences.

Arbitrum employs a unique transaction lifecycle process. First, transactions are sent to an Arbitrum Sequencer, which forwards them for processing. Once processed off-chain by Arbitrum validators, the results are reported back to Ethereum as assertions, ensuring that the underlying data is available to users. Validators post a stake as a deterrent against dishonest behavior. Any fraudulent assertions can be challenged, and validators caught cheating face penalties. After confirming a correct assertion, the transaction is considered final and accepted by Ethereum, providing security against fraud attempts.

The founding team of Arbitrum is led by Ed Felten, Steven Goldfeder, and Harry Kalodner. Ed Felten, a Co-founder and Chief Scientist, has been researching roll-up technology since 2014 and previously served as President Obama’s Deputy CTO. Steven Goldfeder, a Co-founder and CEO, and Harry Kalodner, a Co-founder and CTO, both conducted their PhD research alongside Felten at Princeton University. Arbitrum was developed by Offchain Labs, a company dedicated to improving blockchain technology. To stay up-to-date with the latest news and developments, users can visit the Offchain Labs website and explore the variety of resources and events offered by Arbitrum.
