Civil (CVL) was a blockchain-based media platform that aimed to revolutionize the journalism industry. Founded in 2016, Civil’s mission was to create a trustworthy and decentralized journalism platform owned and operated by the public. They sought to decentralize news verification, journalism funding, and how society stays informed. Although the company could not sustain itself independently, its work in developing innovative technology and supporting award-winning journalists impacted the media landscape.

Civil recently shifted its focus to decentralized identity solutions in the media and advertising sector. This led to closer collaboration with ConsenSys, a prominent blockchain company, and discussions about a strategic merger. As a result, the Civil team and technology will join ConsenSys to contribute to developing cutting-edge solutions for identity and provenance tracking. While the journey for Civil has ended, its legacy continues through the open-source Civil Registry, Civil tokens, and other operational aspects.

Although Civil did not achieve its initial mission, its efforts brought people together and highlighted the importance of journalism in today’s world. The company thanked its teammates, partners, newsrooms, and supporters who made the journey unforgettable.
