4 Governments Pushing for Crypto Education

4 Governments Pushing for Crypto Education

Cryptocurrencies have become widely accepted by everyday users, governments, and traditional financial institutions.  With the change in attitude, governments are also looking for ways to educate the general public and interested parties on how to safely use crypto.

The main purpose of such education is to prevent scams and loss of personal data.  Beyond that, the government will use public education to prepare future users for all the challenges and innovations in the crypto market.  The programs are already in motion in countries that have an open and liberal attitude towards crypto, but others are joining as there are more crypto users and investors.

El Salvador

El Salvador’s National Bitcoin Office (ONBTC) is set to provide Bitcoin training and certification to 80,000 government employees.  The program is a part of a larger strategy to include cryptocurrencies in public policy.  Government employees will learn how to use crypto and invest in the market to assist crypto investors in the field.

The Higher School of Innovation in Public Administration (ESIAP) developed the program.  It came about through the initiative of the president and with the cooperation of the business leaders and insiders.  The governmental regulatory bodies also provided input and shaped the education program when it came to compliance.

El Salvador is an interesting example in this regard since it was one of the first countries to accept Bitcoin as legal tender.  About 70 percent of the country hasn’t access to traditional financial services, and crypto has filled that gap.

Argentina

Argentina was also one of the countries that was among the first to implement crypto in the daily lives of its citizens.  Again, it follows El Salvador’s lead in providing crypto education from an early age.  Through the Ministry of Education, Argentina has partnered with The ETH Kipu Foundation to integrate blockchain technology into high school curricula in Buenos Aires.

The education program will introduce students to blockchain technology and the fundamentals of crypto, and it will focus mostly on Ethereum and its applications in smart contracts.  The education should be a mixture of theoretical knowledge and practical uses.

The program’s long-term goal is for the Argentinian youth to grow up into Ethereum developers, as the country sees it as an important future jobs market.  It’s unknown whether the program will remain in the capitol only, as the local government supports it.

 Singapore

Singapore is one of the countries that provides the most in-depth crypto education, especially focused on university-level education.  It’s no surprise that Singapore is trying to become a tech hub of the region, and innovative education is a key part of that goal.

The National University of Singapore is among the top public universities in Singapore, ranked No. 11 in the QS World University Rankings 2023.  It offers a variety of technical and theoretical courses about blockchain, but it also features a program called blockchain commercial applications

The course covers topics such as distributed ledgers and smart contracts, blockchain resources and architecture, and commercial applications for all of these.  Most students combine the practical teachings with “crypto philosophy” and economics courses.  How a changing market will react to the influx of professionals trained in this area remains to be seen.

Turkey

Turkey is the fourth-largest nation in terms of crypto transaction volume.  It has received approximately $170 billion in crypto transactions since 2022, primarily driven by the need to offset currency devaluation.  The increased interest in crypto has also led the government to consider the importance of crypto education.

The government has partnered up with the Tether EDU initiative to provide such education in the field of the benefits of blockchain and peer-to-peer technology.  The education will include private and public stakeholders in crypto.  Tether also plans to expand this program to the broader Middle East, using Turkey as its hub.

The long-term goal is to make the Turkish markets more resilient to the inflation forces that have caused so much economic trouble.  Using crypto also provides more financial and personal freedom, which are goals both Turkey and Tether are interested in, along with this project and beyond.

Conclusion

Many countries are changing their attitude towards crypto as a result of the changes in the market and the attitude of their citizens.  Some countries have also been on the cutting edge of crypto adoption and have made efforts for citizens to use crypto from the beginning of the industry.  Some countries have stepped up their efforts to provide crypto education programs in recent months.

In some countries, such as Singapore, the focus is on college education, while in others, such as El Salvador, the focus is on training government employees, which shows that the government’s attitudes towards crypto have been adapted.  On the other hand, Turkey provides crypto education to rectify issues in its traditional economy.
