Neighbourhoods (NHT)

Neighbourhoods (NHT) is a web3 framework for groupware built on Holochain. It aims to provide users with real input on how groupware operates and addresses the lack of transparency in social apps. Neighborhoods separate the functions of a collaboration tool from the data layer, giving users and their groups ownership over the design and appearance of subjective factors such as reactions, tags, ratings, and permissions. By using Holochain, peers can validate data and store records of their interactions on their computers, enabling autonomy and truly peer-to-peer communications.

Neighbourhoods believes communities should control how they perceive, react, and recognize each other. While offering a commons-based marketplace to support the creation of neighborhoods, the project also provides a bootstrapping wizard and community management modules that help users discover and pair together “generic tools” and “specific cultural metrics” for their neighborhoods. Including $NHT, the native currency of Neighbourhoods, further facilitates the support of developers and the code commons. As of December 2021, $NHT has been deployed on the ETH and MATIC chains, and it can be found on decentralized exchanges like SushiSwap and Uniswap.

Neighbourhoods has a roadmap for 2023 that includes various epic events aimed at ecosystem development and the growth of the Neighbourhoods ecosystem. This roadmap includes events like Applet Fest, Cultural Hackathon, and developments in computational complexity, digital identity, and the sensemaker feature. Neighborhoods also offer a toolkit to scaffold neighborhoods and a sensemaker_lite app to enable the addition of metadata on any entry from any other hApp DNA. The project is committed to providing a low-code marketplace, prototypes of which will be released shortly, connecting applet developers and communities and further empowering users in their social contexts.
