Bridged USD Coin (Base), ticker USDBC, is a coin that operates on the BaseBase mainnet. It is designed to bring the next billion users on-chain by providing a secure, low-cost, builder-friendly Ethereum L2 solution. As an Ethereum L2, Base offers the security, stability, and scalability necessary to power decentralized applications (dapps) and allows for the seamless ramping of users and assets from Ethereum L1, Coinbase, and other compatible chains.

Base leverages Optimism’s open-source OP Stack, which enhances its security and scalability. As the second Core Dev team working on the OP Stack, Base ensures that it remains a public good accessible to everyone. Additionally, Base contributes a portion of the revenue generated from its sequencer to fund public goods. By integrating with Coinbase’s products and distribution channels, Base offers decentralized apps easy access to Coinbase’s developer tools, seamless Coinbase integrations, easy fiat onramps, and access to the $130 billion worth of assets on the platform.

Base is EVM equivalent, meaning that developers can deploy their existing Ethereum code, tools, and infrastructure on Base without significant code changes. Its roll-up architecture reduces user costs by 10 compared to Ethereum’s average costs. Base aims to be the on-chain home for Coinbase products, users, and assets while fostering an open ecosystem for developers to build on. Furthermore, Base is incubated within Coinbase and plans to gradually decentralize to create an open, accessible, and globally available crypto economy.
