COCOA CHOCONET (COCOA)

Project Introduction: CACAO – INTERNATIONAL FOUNDATION FOR FOOD FREEDOM

The name COCOA was chosen for the following reasons:

1. It is the primary ingredient in chocolate, which is recognized worldwide.
2. It was used as currency in the Mayan Empire.
3. The logo represents the symbol of the sacred Mayan drink in the Techum language: K’akaw’ (Cacao in Spanish, Cocoa in English).
4. Cultural Note: The word “chocolate” originates from the Mayan word Chocol’ja, meaning “drinking chocolate together.” Centuries later, the Aztecs adapted this term.

Our ancestors, the Mayans, believed that Ka’kaw’ was created by Ajaw on a mountain that also held other delicacies cherished by the Mayans.
