Ethereans (OS)

Ethereans (ticker: OS) is a coin that operates on the EthDNS system, allowing users to access information in the Ethereum Name Service (ENS) from DNS. EthDNS is a DNS-over-HTTPS server that resolves regular DNS and ENS-registered domains. Users can obtain relevant information from ENS by appending “.link” to a .eth domain. EthLink, part of the EthDNS system, provides access to .eth domains normally inaccessible from DNS due to the lack of registration as a DNS top-level domain.

Through EthDNS, DNS information held in ENS can be accessed like traditional DNS. The system operates by using HTTPS protocol to perform DNS resolution. EthDNS’s endpoint is https://eth.link/dns-query. It provides DNS resolution for ENS-registered domains, enabling users to retrieve information such as A and TXT records. To access the EthDNS system through standard DNS query, users need to set up a DNS proxy to https://eth.link/dns-query.

EthDNS also supports the contenthash field in ENS, which contains a pointer to content on the internet, often stored in IPFS. If a domain in EthDNS has a contenthash but does not have an A record, it will return the IPFS gateway’s A record when queried for an A record. When asked for TXT records, EthDNS will return the contenthash as its field and as a DNSLink reference. This enables the EthDNS system to create a reverse proxy before an IPFS Gateway, allowing users to access IPFS content based on the information within ENS directly through their web browser.
