BoringDAO (BOR)

BoringDAO is a decentralized finance protocol that launched on the Ethereum blockchain to bring cross-chain interoperability to proof-of-work cryptocurrencies. The protocol built a system of tokenized tunnels allowing users to lock native assets such as Bitcoin, Litecoin, and Dogecoin in exchange for Ethereum-based wrapped equivalents: oBTC, oLTC, and oDOGE. These wrapped tokens could be deployed across DeFi platforms for lending, liquidity provision, and yield farming. The BOR token served as the protocol’s governance and utility token, allowing holders to vote on fee structures, new tunnel approvals, and treasury allocations.

The tunneling mechanism was secured by a decentralized network of node operators who staked BOR tokens as collateral. Users depositing native assets received wrapped tokens at a 1:1 ratio, with minting fees distributed to stakers and the protocol treasury. At its peak, BoringDAO supported wrapping several major PoW assets and was among the early cross-chain bridge protocols on Ethereum. The system operated without centralized custodians, relying instead on over-collateralized staking to guarantee redemptions.

The original BoringDAO bridge services have since been discontinued following a community governance transition. The BOR token was relaunched under a new Ethereum contract with a maximum supply of 2 billion tokens, now functioning as a community token. The new BOR trades at micro-cap valuations on decentralized exchanges. Legacy wrapped tokens — oBTC, oLTC, and oDOGE — continue to exist as separate Ethereum tokens with their own market entries. Historical governance proposals and protocol documentation remain accessible through the project’s on-chain voting records.
