About MoonDEX

MoonDEX (MDEX) was a Proof-of-Work cryptocurrency designed to support a high-speed decentralized exchange built on BitShares technology. Launched in 2018, the project combined a native blockchain with an integrated DEX, allowing users to trade cryptocurrencies in a non-custodial environment. The MDEX coin used the X16R mining algorithm — the same algorithm introduced by Ravencoin — which rotates through 16 hashing functions based on the previous block hash, making it resistant to ASIC mining at launch.

The network operated a two-tier structure consisting of miners and masternodes. Running a masternode required locking 2,500 MDEX as collateral, with node operators earning a share of block rewards in return. The project published API documentation and maintained a dedicated block explorer at explorer.moondex.org. Development activity included scripts for masternode setup on Ubuntu VPS environments, branding assets, and integration with the BitShares JavaScript SDK for the exchange layer.

MoonDEX had a maximum supply of 51 million MDEX coins, with approximately 23.4 million in circulation at its peak. The project website and explorer went offline in August 2024, marking the end of active operations. The coin had a Reddit community at r/moondex and a Twitter presence at @moondexorg. Historical price data and on-chain records remain available for research.
