What is 1Broker?

1Broker, a popular trading platform, was active from November 9th, 2012 to September 27th, 2018. Dedicated to providing users with opportunities to trade on various financial markets, including popular stocks like AAPL or MSFT and commodities like Gold and Forex markets, it allowed settlements in Bitcoin. With over 70,000 registered users, the platform quickly gained popularity in the cryptocurrency community and was widely regarded as a trusted and stable service.

In September 2018, the company faced unexpected civil lawsuits from two US regulatory agencies, the SEC and CFTC, alleging violations of US securities laws. Despite the lack of a connection with the United States, jurisdiction was claimed due to the participation of US customers, who accounted for approximately 18% of the user base. The internet domain 1broker.com was seized and redirected to a US government splash page the same day.

The lawsuits were eventually settled in March 2019 without admitting or denying the allegations. As part of the settlement, 1Broker agreed to pay fines and disgorgements related to US resident transactions. Despite the encouragement from users to continue their services, the company made the difficult decision to shut down 1Broker due to the legal challenges faced and limited resources. Customers could withdraw their funds via an alternative domain, 1broker.io, until the end of 2019. Throughout its operation, 1Broker maintained a high level of customer satisfaction, with no legal complaints from customers and a customer satisfaction rate estimated to be above 95%.
