MimbleWimbleCoin (MWC)

MimbleWimbleCoin (MWC), with the ticker MWC, is a scalable cryptocurrency built on the MimbleWimble Protocol. It is a scarce pure proof-of-work coin offering greater network scalability, privacy, and fungibility than traditional blockchain protocols. All transactions on the base layer of MWC utilize Greg Maxwell’s Coin Join with Confidential Transactions and signature aggregation, enhancing privacy and security.

MWC was launched in November 2019, but the Mimblewimble technology it is based on has been relatively unknown and disregarded since its discovery in 2016. However, a 2018 paper by Fuchsbauer et al. titled “Aggregate Cash System: A Cryptographic Investigation of Mimblewimble” provided a provable-security analysis for Mimblewimble, proving its security under standard assumptions. Despite the lack of comprehensive information, MWC proves to be a technologically superior cryptocurrency.

The MWC development team aims to surpass existing market goods by delivering the ten primary monetary characteristics of good money in the Information Age: recognizability, scarcity, censorship resistance, durability, extensibility, scalability, portability, fungibility, privacy, and divisibility. MWC transactions offer increased privacy through CoinJoin, Confidential Transactions, and signature aggregation. Additionally, MWC allows for merging transactions and block formats, making them indistinguishable and reducing the overall blockchain size to just a few gigabytes. The development team has also created a GUI wallet, implemented MWC/BTC atomic swaps, and is working on mobile wallet integration and Non-interactive transactions (NIT).
