About RedCoin
RedCoin (RED) was a peer-to-peer cryptocurrency that launched in early 2014 during a period of intense altcoin experimentation. Built on its own dedicated blockchain rather than an existing network, RedCoin was designed as a community-driven digital currency intended to function as a tipping and micro-payment tool, particularly within social media ecosystems. It featured a proof-of-stake consensus mechanism, which allowed holders to earn rewards by staking their coins, and positioned itself as a more energy-efficient alternative to proof-of-work coins that dominated the era.
RedCoin reached a fully circulating supply of 74,107,904 RED coins, with no coins withheld in treasury or locked contracts. The project had no smart contract address, reflecting its status as a native coin on its own chain rather than a token on a host network such as Ethereum. Trading activity was concentrated on smaller altcoin exchanges during the mid-2010s boom in community coins, and RedCoin maintained a modest but active community for several years following launch. The coin never attained the network effect needed to break into mainstream adoption, and trading volume steadily declined through the late 2010s and into the 2020s.
RedCoin official website at redcoin.pw went permanently offline in October 2024, marking the effective end of any coordinated project activity. As of May 2026, the domain remains unreachable. With no verified social accounts, no active development repository, and no community infrastructure, RedCoin is considered defunct. Its historical on-chain data and supply figures are preserved here for reference. Researchers and holders seeking archived information may find partial records via blockchain explorers that indexed the RedCoin chain during its active years.
