What is XWallet?

XWallet was a mobile blockchain wallet developed by Pundi X, designed to connect digital assets with everyday retail transactions through the company’s XPOS point-of-sale ecosystem. Launched as a companion app to the XPOS terminal, it allowed users to buy, send, and receive cryptocurrencies and to pay at XPOS-enabled merchants by linking an XPASS contactless card. The app also supported Telegram-based transfers and access to decentralized applications within the Pundi X network.

The wallet operated as a custodial product, meaning Pundi X held the private keys on behalf of users. It supported PUNDIX, NPXS (the legacy token later merged into PUNDIX), and a range of ERC-20 tokens on Ethereum. Users could also interact with partner wallets and features such as biometric authentication and two-factor login for account security.

Pundi X decommissioned XWallet on December 31, 2023, citing a strategic shift toward Web3 and self-custodial products. A key factor was the migration of PUNDIX holders to private wallets following the launch of the Pundi X Chain, which reduced reliance on the custodial app. From January 1, 2024, asset withdrawals from XWallet accounts were no longer possible. Users with insufficient balances to cover gas fees were advised that neither Pundi X nor any third party could facilitate recovery of those funds.

The non-custodial f(x)Wallet, subsequently rebranded as Pundi Wallet, serves as the recommended self-custody alternative within the Pundi X ecosystem. XPOS terminals have continued operating and expanded blockchain support to include Bitcoin, Ethereum, Solana, and BNB Chain, alongside the Pundi AIFX network that merged the original Pundi X Chain with Function X’s f(x)Core in 2024.
