Streamr DATAcoin (DATA) is the native cryptocurrency of the Streamr Network, a fully decentralized and scalable protocol for real-time data pipelines, network analytics, and instant messaging. The Streamr Network provides a secure and censorship-resistant pub-sub data transport layer that allows users to connect their data to the rest of the world. With sub-second, ordered message delivery over a peer-to-peer network, DATA enables fast and scalable real-time communication. Every message on the Streamr Network is cryptographically signed and end-to-end encrypted, ensuring the secure transmission of data.

Streamr DATAcoin empowers users to monetize their data streams by selling access to them through composable smart contracts. The DATA token can be used to pay for data access and project governance and incentivize network participants. Furthermore, Streamr DATAcoin can be earned by running a network node, contributing to the security and stability of the network. The Streamr ecosystem includes various applications like The Hub, a platform for managing data streams and projects, and Data Unions, a framework for crowdsourcing and incentivizing data creation.

Streamr was founded in 2017 to provide a decentralized solution for real-time data connectivity. The project has a global team of around 30 contributors, including companies and individuals, who actively develop and maintain the open-source software.
