WeatherXM (WXM)

WeatherXM is a decentralized physical infrastructure network (DePIN) that combines IoT hardware and blockchain technology to build a community-powered global weather data network. Station owners purchase a WeatherXM weather station, deploy it at their location, and earn WXM tokens in return for sharing verified local weather data. The network uses Cryptographic Proofs of Location (PoL) and Quality of Data (QoD) algorithms to validate contributions, ensuring data integrity before rewards are issued.

As of 2025, WeatherXM has over 7,000 stations deployed across the globe, with more than 9,500 manufactured and 15,000 community members. The platform serves a range of professional use cases including agriculture, renewable energy site selection, maritime operations, and parametric weather insurance. WeatherXM Pro provides a B2B REST API and data console for businesses needing hyperlocal forecast accuracy. A Web3 Weather Oracle enables on-chain applications to consume trusted weather feeds directly from the network.

The WXM token functions as the governance and data licensing token of the WeatherXM ecosystem. Data consumers purchase Data Credits (DC), pegged to USD, to access weather services; the protocol burns WXM to mint DC, creating a deflationary burn-and-mint equilibrium. The maximum token supply is approximately 4.26 million WXM. The project was founded by Manolis Nikiforakis and is backed by notable ecosystem partners including SwissBorg, which has deployed over 2,270 stations to underserved regions.
