What is CoinVault?
CoinVault was a browser-based, self-custody cryptocurrency wallet designed to let users store multiple digital assets in a single interface without giving up control of their private keys. Marketed as easy to use, it targeted holders of Bitcoin-era altcoins who wanted a single place to manage multiple coins without relying on exchange-hosted accounts.
The wallet supported a range of proof-of-work and proof-of-stake coins from the early altcoin era, including Bitcoin, Litecoin, Dogecoin, Namecoin, Peercoin, Gridcoin, Quark, Reddcoin, Terracoin, and Primecoin. Support for additional assets was planned because the service was still in beta when public records became available. No EVM-compatible chains or newer layer-one networks were listed in available sources.
Private keys remained under user control rather than being held by the service. The wallet used mnemonic-phrase backups as its primary recovery mechanism, allowing users to restore access to their funds from a written phrase. No mobile applications, browser extensions, or desktop clients are documented; the service operated entirely through a web interface.
No company name, country of incorporation, or founding year is recorded in available sources. The coinvault.io website went offline on 5 March 2025 and remains unreachable. No public announcement about the shutdown or its reasons has been found. Wayback Machine archives of the site were not accessible during research.
