What is Opera Touch?

Opera Crypto Wallet was a non-custodial cryptocurrency wallet built directly into Opera’s browser products. It launched as part of Opera Touch, Opera’s iOS-first mobile browser, and was later developed into a central feature of the Opera Crypto Browser project, a dedicated Web3 browser that entered public beta in January 2022 for Windows, macOS, and Android. In March 2024, Opera discontinued the standalone Crypto Browser and merged its wallet and Web3 features into the main Opera browsers across desktop (Windows, macOS, Linux) and mobile (Android, iOS).

The wallet operated on a non-custodial model: private keys and the 12-word recovery phrase were stored locally on the user’s device, never on Opera’s servers. It supported Ethereum, Bitcoin, Solana, Polygon, BNB Chain, Celo, Nervos, and several other networks, along with ERC-20, ERC-721, and ERC-1155 tokens. Users could interact with decentralized applications directly in the browser without installing extensions, and the wallet included a secure clipboard feature designed to prevent malicious address substitution.

Opera phased out the wallet in 2025 and 2026. From July 15, 2025, users could no longer add new assets to the Opera Crypto Wallet. After January 1, 2026, the wallet interface was removed from Opera One and all mobile browsers, and remaining assets became inaccessible through the built-in wallet. Opera advised users to migrate assets using their recovery phrase to a third-party non-custodial wallet such as MetaMask, or to a hardware wallet. Opera’s ongoing focus in the crypto space has shifted to MiniPay, a dollar-stablecoin wallet built on the Celo blockchain and aimed at emerging markets, which reached over 11 million registered wallets by early 2026.
