What is UberPay?

UberPay was a non-custodial multicoin mobile wallet released by Geopay.me Inc., a Florida-based app development company founded in 2015 by John Karantonis and Adonis Velamontes. The product was designed to combine asset storage, transfers, and in-app coin conversion in a single mobile experience. UberPay was primarily available as an Android application, with a Windows version also offered; an iOS release was listed but never fully delivered. The wallet kept private keys on the user’s device rather than with a third-party custodian.

UberPay implemented the BIP44 hierarchical deterministic standard, meaning a single recovery phrase covered all supported coins. Users could back up once and restore any coin balance from that phrase alone. The wallet also included an IP-masking feature when broadcasting transactions, which the team positioned as a privacy benefit. A built-in conversion tool let users swap between supported assets directly inside the app.

The supported coin set consisted of Bitcoin-family and proof-of-work altcoins, including Bitcoin, Litecoin, Dogecoin, Dash, Peercoin, Reddcoin, Namecoin, and Feathercoin, among others. Ethereum and ERC-20 tokens were never supported. The last meaningful Android update shipped in early 2016, leaving the wallet without active maintenance for most of its publicly available life.

The uberpay.io domain went offline in October 2024, and the mobile applications were removed from app stores. User reviews in the later years of operation included reports of funds becoming inaccessible. The parent company Geopay.me continued operating its broader remittance service after UberPay was discontinued. Anyone who still holds a legacy installation should use their original recovery phrase to migrate balances to an actively maintained wallet.
