Grass (GRASS)

Grass (GRASS) is a decentralized physical infrastructure network (DePIN) built on Solana that turns everyday users’ unused internet bandwidth into a resource for collecting and structuring public web data used to train artificial intelligence models. Participants install a browser extension or desktop app that acts as a node, routing spare bandwidth to Grass so it can crawl and process publicly available web pages, while personal data and browsing activity remain inaccessible to the network or any third party.

The project positions itself as an alternative to the handful of large companies capable of crawling the entire web, aiming to build a user-owned data layer for AI rather than one controlled by a few centralized players. Contributors earn Grass Points based on uptime, referrals, and actual bandwidth usage, which convert into GRASS tokens. GRASS itself is a Solana Program Library (SPL) token that functions as the network’s utility and governance asset: it is used to pay for data scraping and dataset access, can be staked to routers that help secure the network, and gives holders a voice in governance decisions over network upgrades and incentive structures.
