Maple Finance (SYRUP)

Maple Finance (SYRUP) is the native governance and utility token of Maple, an institutional-grade on-chain lending and credit platform. Maple connects institutional borrowers with lenders through overcollateralized, fixed-rate lending pools, using smart contracts to automate loan issuance, collateral management, and repayment. The protocol positions itself within the real-world asset and on-chain credit sector, aiming to bring traditional institutional capital markets activity onto public blockchains such as Ethereum and Base.

Maple’s product suite includes syrupUSDC and syrupUSDT, yield-bearing stable-value products used by lenders to earn returns from institutional loan activity, while SYRUP itself is a separate token that gives holders governance rights over protocol parameters and decisions. SYRUP replaced Maple’s earlier MPL token following a community vote, with legacy MPL holders converting to SYRUP at a fixed ratio.

Beyond voting, SYRUP is designed to capture value from Maple’s business activity: a portion of protocol revenue is directed toward buying back and retiring SYRUP tokens from circulation, tying the token’s supply dynamics to the platform’s lending volume and fee generation. Holders can also stake SYRUP or use it within integrated third-party protocols, positioning it as the coordination and incentive layer for Maple’s broader institutional lending ecosystem.
