About Reddit MOONs

Reddit MOONs (MOON) were ERC-20 tokens introduced by Reddit as community points for the r/CryptoCurrency subreddit. Contributors earned MOONs based on the karma they accumulated through posts and comments, with monthly distributions starting at 5 million tokens per cycle and declining by 2.5% each round. The tokens were designed to represent a stake in the community: holders could tip other users, display reputation badges, unlock premium comment features such as animated GIFs, and add weight to community polls. Reddit set a hard cap of 250 million MOONs for the program.

In October 2023, Reddit announced it was discontinuing its Community Points program, citing the complexity of scaling blockchain-based rewards across the platform. The shutdown took full effect on November 8, 2023. Reddit official involvement ended completely at that point, meaning no new MOONs were distributed through Reddit infrastructure after that date, and the Reddit Vault wallet integration was removed from the app.

Following Reddit exit, a segment of the r/CryptoCurrency community independently migrated MOON to the Gnosis Chain (contract: 0x1e16aa4Df73d29C029d94CeDa3e3114EC191E25A). This fork is entirely community-maintained and carries no official affiliation with Reddit. The token retains the MOON ticker and the original 250 million maximum supply, but with a small circulating float of approximately 3.4 million tokens as of mid-2025. Trading volumes are minimal, reflecting the token niche, community-driven status after the program formal closure.
