Ronin Bridged WETH (Ronin) (WETH)

Ronin Bridged WETH (WETH) is a wrapped representation of Ether (ETH) issued on Ronin, the Ethereum-linked sidechain originally built by Sky Mavis for the Axie Infinity game ecosystem and now used by a broader range of gaming and DeFi applications. It is created through the Ronin Bridge, which locks native ETH on Ethereum and mints an equivalent amount of WETH on Ronin, allowing the asset to move between the two networks while remaining redeemable 1:1 for the underlying ETH.

The Ronin Bridge uses a multi-signature validator model, requiring approval from multiple bridge operators before a transfer is finalized, a design intended to prevent any single party from unilaterally moving funds. The bridge was rebuilt and re-audited after a 2022 exploit in which attackers compromised validator nodes and drained a large amount of ETH and USDC; it has since operated with additional audits and, in its newer iteration, uses Chainlink’s CCIP for cross-chain messaging. On Ronin, WETH functions as the network’s representation of ETH for trading, liquidity provision, and gas-adjacent use within apps such as decentralized exchanges, with its value tracking the price of ETH on Ethereum.
