Shardeum (SHM)

Shardeum (SHM) is an EVM-based, linearly scalable smart contract platform that aims to provide low gas fees while maintaining decentralization and security through dynamic state sharding. With Shardeum, developers can easily deploy smart contracts written in languages like Solidity and Vyper, making it accessible for new and existing developers to build decentralized applications (dApps) quickly. By assigning dynamic address ranges across multiple shards, Shardeum enables parallel and atomic processing of transactions, resulting in linear scalability. As more nodes join the network, the transactions per second (TPS) capacity increases, ensuring low transaction fees even with growing usage.

Shardeum stands out with its emphasis on accessibility and inclusivity. Anyone can operate a node on the Shardeum network thanks to low hardware requirements and a user-friendly GUI that makes it easier for non-technical users to run a node. The platform also prioritizes fairness by processing transactions on a first-come, first-served (FCFS) basis and implementing a leaderless Proof-of-Quorum (PoQ) consensus algorithm, Proof-of-Stake (PoS) with slashing, standby nodes, node rotation, and permissionless participation, which contribute to the overall security of the network.

Shardeum’s roadmap highlights its commitment to continuous improvement and expansion. The platform has already achieved significant milestones during its Alphanet phase, showcasing state sharding with cross-shard atomic composability and implementing EIP 2930 automation. The next phase, Betanet, is set to launch with increased TPS capacity, more validators, and larger shard sizes. The team behind Shardeum includes Nischal Shetty, the founder of WazirX, and Omar Syed, a distributed systems architect with vast experience. The project is built with the active involvement of the community, aligning with the open, collaborative, and community-driven (OCC) principle.
