Bitcoin Meester

Bitcoin Meester was a Dutch cryptocurrency exchange that operated from 2017 until its full integration into the Kraken ecosystem. Originally launched as a consumer-facing brand of Bitladon, the platform served Dutch and wider European users with a simple buy-and-sell interface for cryptocurrencies, settled in euros. Its focus was on accessibility for retail investors who wanted a straightforward way to enter the crypto market without using more complex spot trading interfaces.

The platform offered trading in major cryptocurrencies including Bitcoin, Ethereum, Litecoin, and a curated selection of other assets. Customers funded their accounts via SEPA bank transfers and iDEAL, with fees built into the spread rather than charged as separate maker and taker percentages. Identity verification followed Dutch and EU regulatory requirements, and the company was registered with De Nederlandsche Bank as a crypto service provider before the regulatory framework shifted under MiCA.

In 2024, Bitcoin Meester announced its acquisition by Kraken, and existing customer accounts were migrated to Kraken’s infrastructure. The bitcoinmeester.nl domain now redirects to kraken.com, and the Bitcoin Meester brand is no longer operated as an independent service. Former users continue to access their balances and trade through Kraken, which provides a deeper order book, expanded asset list, and global customer support compared to the original standalone platform.
