What is Bitgo?

BitGo is an institutional digital asset infrastructure company founded in 2013 and headquartered in Palo Alto, California. It operates as a qualified custodian through BitGo Trust Company and, following regulatory approval from the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency in December 2025, is converting to a federally chartered national trust bank. The platform serves asset managers, hedge funds, exchanges, banks, fintechs, governments, and coin foundations, with over $100 billion in digital assets under custody across its client base. In January 2026, BitGo completed an IPO on the NYSE under the ticker BTGO, raising $212 million.

The platform’s custody infrastructure combines hot wallets, warm wallets, and deep cold storage, secured through multi-signature technology and Multi-Party Computation using Threshold Signature Scheme (TSS). Clients choose between regulated Go Accounts or self-custody wallet infrastructure. Additional services include:

  • Prime brokerage (trading, financing, collateral management)
  • Off-exchange settlement
  • Staking and restaking
  • Stablecoin-as-a-Service

BitGo also serves as the primary custodian for the bitcoin reserves backing Wrapped Bitcoin (wBTC), the tokenized BTC asset used across the Ethereum network and DeFi protocols.

Developers and enterprise integrators access BitGo through a REST API and the BitGo SDK, with a white-label wallet option for exchanges and fintechs that custody assets on behalf of their own users.

Supported networks:

  • Bitcoin
  • Ethereum
  • Solana
  • Polygon
  • Avalanche
  • BNB Chain
  • Tron
  • XRP
  • A broad range of additional blockchains, with custody available for hundreds of tokens across those networks

All products are designed around institutional compliance requirements; BitGo does not offer a retail self-custody wallet.
