What is BlockWallet?

BlockWallet is a self-custodial Web3 browser extension wallet focused on privacy and security across EVM-compatible blockchain networks. Developed by Virtual Privacy AG in Estonia and launched in 2020, it runs as a Chromium-based extension compatible with Chrome, Edge, Opera, and Brave.

A defining feature of BlockWallet is its private node infrastructure, which routes transactions through privacy proxies that strip metadata such as IP address and location before passing data to node providers. This prevents third-party RPC providers from profiling users. The wallet also includes Flashbots protection, which shields transactions from sandwich attacks and front-running on decentralized exchanges, and a phishing protection layer that generates unique visual markers on sensitive screens to flag spoofed interfaces.

BlockWallet previously offered a privacy pool feature built on Tornado Cash. Following OFAC sanctions against Tornado Cash in August 2022, BlockWallet discontinued that integration. The underlying privacy proxy and Flashbots protections remain active.

Additional features include built-in token swaps and cross-chain bridging, a gas fee tracker and optimizer, token allowance management for revoking risky DApp approvals, and a node failover system that automatically switches between primary and backup RPC providers. Hardware wallet support is available for Ledger, Trezor, and Keystone devices.

BlockWallet supports Ethereum, BNB Chain, Polygon, Avalanche, Fantom, Arbitrum, Optimism, zkSync, Gnosis, Scroll, Morph, and other EVM-compatible networks, with a network discovery tool for adding additional chains. ERC-20 and equivalent tokens on supported chains are also compatible.
