What is Cobo Wallet?

Cobo was founded in 2017 by Discus Fish (Mao Shixing), co-founder of the F2Pool mining pool, and Dr. Changhao Jiang, a former Google and Facebook engineer who also built Bihang, China’s first Bitcoin wallet in 2013. The company originally launched a consumer-facing Cobo Wallet app but has since pivoted entirely to enterprise and institutional infrastructure. The consumer app is no longer actively promoted or supported; Cobo’s current products are aimed exclusively at organizations, funds, and fintech companies.

Cobo’s flagship offering is its Wallet-as-a-Service (WaaS 2.0) platform, which lets businesses create and manage wallets programmatically across more than 80 blockchain networks via API and SDK integrations. The platform provides four custody models: custodial wallets secured by hardware security modules (HSMs) and Intel SGX trusted execution environments, MPC wallets using distributed threshold signature scheme (TSS) nodes, smart contract wallets with on-chain and off-chain transaction policy controls, and exchange wallets for unified multi-exchange asset management. Cobo also offers Cobo Argus, a DeFi risk management tool built on Safe multisig, and Cobo Safe, a modular on-chain access control framework.

Supported assets span over 3,000 tokens across 80+ chains, including Bitcoin, Ethereum, Solana, Arbitrum, Optimism, Polygon, Avalanche, and a broad range of EVM-compatible networks. Cobo reports a zero-breach security record since inception and obtained SOC 2 Type 2 certification in 2023. The company raised $13M in a 2018 Series A and $40M in a 2021 Series B, and currently serves more than 500 institutional clients worldwide.
