aBTC (ABTC)

aBTC (ABTC) is a 1:1 Bitcoin-backed token issued on the Aptos blockchain by Echo Protocol, a Bitcoin liquidity and yield infrastructure built on Aptos’s Move virtual machine. It represents Bitcoin bridged into the Aptos ecosystem: users deposit native BTC (often via Bitcoin liquid staking routes such as Babylon) or existing wrapped Bitcoin assets like WBTC or FBTC into Echo’s vault system, which locks the underlying asset and mints aBTC on Aptos in exchange, with sibling tokens (mBTC, mphBTC, hBTC) minted on other supported chains such as Movement, Morph and Hemi.

Backing is maintained on a strict one-to-one basis, verified through real-time proof-of-reserve checks, and the peg is supported by arbitrage activity across integrated venues. Holders can redeem aBTC back into the underlying Bitcoin-linked asset through Echo’s bridge, or deposit it into Echo Lending and other Aptos DeFi protocols to earn yield. aBTC is distinct from ECHO, the protocol’s separate native governance and incentive token.
