Virtual Protocol (VIRTUAL)

Virtual Protocol (VIRTUAL) is a decentralized platform for creating, tokenizing, and monetizing autonomous AI agents. Launched in October 2024 and initially built on Ethereum’s Base layer 2 network before expanding to additional chains, the protocol lets anyone deploy an AI agent by contributing VIRTUAL tokens through a bonding curve; once enough VIRTUAL accumulates, the agent’s own token graduates into a liquidity pool paired against VIRTUAL, giving it an on-chain market and letting its creator retain and monetize ongoing revenue.

Agents on the platform are built using the GAME (Generative Autonomous Multimodal Entities) framework, which gives them planning logic and persistent memory so they can act independently across social media, livestreaming, chat, and other digital environments. A companion layer, the Agent Commerce Protocol, handles job creation, escrow, and verification so agents can transact with users and with each other, recording the activity on-chain. Notable agents launched through the protocol include the AI livestreamer Luna and the market-intelligence bot aixbt.

VIRTUAL is the ecosystem’s native token: it is the required pairing asset for every agent token’s liquidity pool, the currency used to pay for agent inference and services, and the basis for governance, since holders can lock VIRTUAL for veVIRTUAL to vote on protocol and treasury decisions. Protocol revenue is also used to buy back and burn VIRTUAL, tying the token’s supply to platform activity.
