What is BlueWallet?

BlueWallet is a free, open-source, non-custodial Bitcoin-only wallet built for iOS, Android, macOS, and desktop. It was created in the aftermath of the 2017 Bitcoin fork wars by a Brazilian development team, with the goal of giving users a dedicated Bitcoin wallet with full control over their funds and transaction fees. The project is maintained as open-source software on GitHub.

BlueWallet supports three wallet types in one app: on-chain Bitcoin wallets (Native SegWit bech32, P2SH-SegWit, and Legacy), multisig vaults using PSBT (BIP174) for coordinating multiple signing keys, and Lightning Network wallets for fast, low-fee payments. Lightning can be used via a built-in custodial option or connected to a self-hosted node for full sovereignty. Watch-only wallets let users monitor cold storage addresses without exposing private keys.

Security-focused features include multisig cold storage with support for hardware wallets such as Coldcard and Cobo Vault, full wallet encryption, biometric authentication, and a plausible deniability mode that allows multiple wallets under separate passwords. HD wallet derivation follows BIP32, and wallets from other Bitcoin clients can be imported via compatible derivation paths or Electrum-compatible seeds.

BlueWallet supports Bitcoin exclusively, covering on-chain BTC and the Bitcoin Lightning Network. It does not support Ethereum, altcoins, or tokens.
