What is ELLIPAL Mnemonic Metal?
The ELLIPAL Mnemonic Metal is a physical seed-phrase backup plate produced by ELLIPAL, the Hong Kong-based company behind the ELLIPAL Titan hardware wallet series. It is not a wallet in its own right; it is a durable steel accessory designed to store a BIP-39 recovery phrase offline in a form that survives the physical hazards that paper cannot.
The plate is machined from 316 stainless steel and measures 70mm x 57mm x 6mm, weighing 130g. To record a seed phrase, the user unscrews the top plate, slides in the first four letters of each word from the BIP-39 word list using the letter-tile slots, then reattaches and tightens the plate. Because every word in the BIP-39 standard is uniquely identified by its first four characters, the full phrase can be reconstructed from this abbreviated entry. The device accommodates phrases of 12, 15, 18, 21, or 24 words, and can hold two separate 12-word phrases if needed.
The steel construction provides fire resistance up to 1,454 degrees Celsius (2,649 degrees Fahrenheit), along with waterproofing and resistance to impact and pressure. These ratings make it suitable as a long-term offline backup against scenarios that would destroy a paper seed sheet: house fires, flooding, and physical damage. Each unit ships with two recovery worksheets and a user manual.
The ELLIPAL Mnemonic Metal is compatible with any BIP-39 wallet, including the ELLIPAL Titan, ELLIPAL Titan Mini, and ELLIPAL X Card, as well as most other hardware and software wallets that use the same standard. It is sold as a standalone accessory and also in a Steel Duo pack for users who want to keep one copy at home and one off-site.
