What is PumaPay?
PumaPay was a blockchain-based payment protocol and cryptocurrency wallet founded in 2017 and incorporated in Gibraltar through Decentralized Vision Ltd., with operational headquarters in Limassol, Cyprus. The project raised approximately $117 million in a May 2018 ICO, at the time one of the largest in the world. Its core product was the PullPayment Protocol: a set of Ethereum smart contracts that reversed the standard transaction flow, allowing merchants to pull funds from a customer’s wallet according to predefined billing terms rather than requiring the customer to initiate each payment. This architecture was designed to enable recurring subscriptions and other advanced billing models on the blockchain.
Custody: non-custodial, using a 12-word seed phrase for key recovery.
The companion mobile wallet was available for iOS and Android. Users could store, send, and receive the following assets:
- Bitcoin (BTC)
- Ethereum (ETH)
- Bitcoin Cash (BCH)
- Litecoin (LTC)
- ERC-20 tokens, including the native PMA token
In-app fiat-to-crypto purchasing via debit or credit card was added in 2020. The PMA token is an ERC-20 asset on Ethereum and was also deployed on BNB Smart Chain.
The PumaPay mobile wallet was discontinued on August 1, 2022, when the company announced a transition to a V3.0 product that did not materialize. Users were directed to export their seed phrases or transfer funds to a third-party wallet. The pumapay.io website now redirects to a subdomain that returns an error, developer documentation links resolve to 404 pages, and the wallet app has been removed from review platforms. The PMA token still appears on some exchanges but trades at near-zero volume. PumaPay (PMA) can still be stored in third-party wallets with ERC-20 and BNB Smart Chain support.
