What is Tangem?

Tangem is a self-custody hardware wallet founded in 2017 and headquartered in Zug, Switzerland. Rather than the typical USB stick form factor, Tangem produces wallets in card format: slim, NFC-enabled cards roughly the size of a credit card that pair with a free mobile app on iOS and Android. The company offers three hardware products: the Tangem Wallet (sold in two-card or three-card sets), the Tangem Ring (a wearable ring-format wallet bundled with two backup cards), and Tangem Pay, which enables crypto payments via Apple Pay and Google Pay on Polygon.

Security is built around an EAL6+ certified secure element chip, developed in collaboration with Samsung Semiconductors. Private keys are generated directly on the chip using physical sensor entropy and never leave the device. Each card authenticates itself against counterfeits on every interaction. The firmware has been independently audited by Kudelski Security and Riscure. Because Tangem operates no servers involved in transaction signing, there is no company-side access to user funds. Cards have no battery and are rated for a 25-year lifespan, with a corresponding warranty.

Each wallet set ships with two or three identical cards so that one card can serve as a backup for the others. Access to the wallet is protected by a user-set access code. The companion mobile app handles portfolio tracking, real-time price data, buying, swapping, staking, and transaction execution through integrated third-party providers.

Tangem supports Bitcoin, Ethereum, Solana, BNB Chain, Tron, Polygon, Avalanche, Cardano, Cosmos, and 80+ additional blockchains, with a total of over 14,100 tokens and assets across those networks, including ERC-20, BEP-20, and SPL tokens.
