What is Weiss Ratings?
Weiss Ratings is an independent financial ratings agency based in Jupiter, Florida, United States. Founded in 1971 by Martin Weiss, the company provides ratings and research across stocks, mutual funds, ETFs, banks, credit unions, insurance companies, and cryptocurrencies, covering more than 65,500 assets in total.
The company introduced cryptocurrency ratings in January 2018, describing itself as the first traditional ratings agency to publish institutional-grade crypto assessments. Its proprietary model evaluates digital assets on four dimensions: technology, adoption, investment risk, and market momentum, producing letter grades from A to E. Over 768 cryptocurrencies are rated using this methodology. Weiss Ratings states it does not accept compensation from companies it rates, positioning its output as editorially independent.
Products include real-time updated ratings, research newsletters such as Weiss Crypto Daily, a mobile app, and educational resources. The service is aimed at individual investors seeking data-driven analysis of both traditional financial instruments and digital assets.
