Streamr Network
What is Streamr Network?
Streamr Network is a decentralized, open-source real-time data protocol that enables permissionless publish-subscribe data streaming over a peer-to-peer network. Founded in 2017 and incorporated in Zug, Switzerland, the project provides infrastructure for developers and applications that require low-latency, fault-tolerant data transmission without centralized servers.
The protocol integrates with Ethereum, Gnosis, and Polygon blockchains, which handle identity, access permissions, and payments. Data streams are cryptographically signed by publishers and can be end-to-end encrypted for private use. Node operators secure the network by staking the DATA token and earn rewards from usage fees, while the network’s throughput scales linearly as more nodes join.
Core use cases include AI data delivery, live video broadcasting via a decentralized content distribution layer, IoT and DePIN device telemetry, secure peer-to-peer messaging, and data monetization through stream subscriptions. Developers can connect via the Streamr SDK, Docker-based nodes, or standard protocols such as MQTT, HTTP, and WebSockets.
